We are pleased to announce that we have just posted two more items on our resources page. They are two audio recordings by Marie Tsuruda, taken from the CD, Stories From Hiroshima.
One of the recordings is a reading of Paper Crane Journey and the other is a reading of Sadako’s Prayer, two children’s books that tell the story of Sadako Sasaki and her struggle to survive in the aftermath of the atom bomb, which was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th 1945.
Paper Crane Journey, by Shiho Umino, also explains how Sadako’s story prompted the creation of the Children’s Peace Monument in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Paper Crane Journey has been translated into several different languages by volunteers. With the publisher’s permission, the translations are printed onto templates which are affixed over the original version of the text.
Sadako’s Prayer, by Fauzia Minallah, tells the story of Amai, a big “bird of light” who takes two children, Shima and Ali, on a journey to Hiroshima and tells them the story of Sadako Sasaki and how she continued to have hope in spite of her suffering.
We hope the audio recordings will serve as useful additional resources. They may be shared on any social network, website or blog, and used in classes and groups for educational purposes.
